Made from the younger tea leaves of the Camelia sinensis plant, the popularity of White tea is increasing due it’s noticeably light, sweet taste. White tea not only tastes good, but according to at least one scientific study, white tea is loaded with antioxidants which means it’s also good for your health.
Peppermint, used as a herbal remedy for centuries, is also popular throughout the world as herbal tea. In scientific studies peppermint has been proven to relieve upset stomach and constipation. In ancient China, peppermint was used in combination with tea as a detoxification or anti-inflammatory agent. However, scientific evidence of the benefits of combining white tea with peppermint tea was lacking or non-existent.
So a team of researchers in China, set about to study the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of white tea and peppermint tea, to find out exactly what the health benefits are when the two are combined. What they discovered re-affirms what Chinese traditional medicine has known for centuries.
For the first time it was shown that when white tea was combined with peppermint, the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects were enhanced. In the scientific study, the combined white tea + peppermint tea was shown to have an effect at stopping four strains of bacteria including Staphylococcus argenteus which is one of several which cause food poisoning.
